I received some other requests for blog topics from Penny, who is a long time friend who lives in Colorado. She and her hubby have been RVing for years. They will do more long distance trips before too long!
Here are her requests:
“Tell me about the rallies... as much as we've RV'd we've never done a rally…”
"Would love to see some pictures of the parks you're at and hear a bit more about each place...Vicarious thrills" (There will be many more ... here are some.)
Rallies:
We are by no means experts at Rallies! We have only attended 2 so far. One of them was a local chapter of Escapees . This RV Club was recommended to us some couples who have done the “full-time” RV life. There is a national membership - and local chapters. We attended (first) a local chapter rally in “central” Florida. We will be attending another in a few weeks (more later on that).
In both cases we attended without being members and were welcomed very warmly. (We joined both groups for $5 or $10 a year!)
The Escapees (SKPs) Rally (about 20 rigs) consisted of meals together (some potluck, some provided, some a combination), game nights (learned to play the card game: Sticks), Happy Hours, Silent Auction of reusable goods that were fit to pass along, 50-50 raffles, as well as outings in the area during the day.
All this was at an RV park (Little Willies in Arcadia) where the group negotiated a reasonable rate and a “common area“. So, we were all parked near each other and near the clubhouse, which was available for our use.
(In case you didn't see it, look for the blog below titled "First Escapee (SKP) Rally")
The Carriage Rally we attended was also a local chapter: “The Roadrunners” - love the name! We found this group because the owners of the coach brand have clubs. So, I did a search online. We thought it would be a good idea to connect with others who own Carriages! We will be attending a National Carriage Rally in March.
The Roadrunners were a smaller group (8-10 5th Wheels), which made it very easy to get to know nearly everyone. We sat outside and visited with each other for Happy Hour. We even visited with each others pooches!
Games were part of the fun. We learned to play Playing Card Bingo!
We had similar arrangements for meals as in the other rally (some provided, some potluck). However, on the last night we all went out for dinner together.
The RV Park we visited this time was Wekiva Falls RV Resort. Lovely destination!
Of course, it was far too cold for swimming, and, even for kayaking (frost in the morning one day).
We liked the surroundings, though, and will be returning here for another Rally (a different Escapees Chapter) in March.
Hopefully it will be warmer then. Even now as we approach Spring, it remains wuite cool here.
