We may not be great film stars, but we sure had a great Roman Holiday!
OUR ROMAN HOLIDAY!
The Cast: Enrico, our host; Pat & Ray; Letizia, our hostess!
Valentina, their daughter (who lives at home and is closing in on a law degree within the year)!
The language:
I love listening to the Italian language... tried to say a few words and phrases, but, both of our hosts speak English REALLY well. Letizia teaches English Literature in an Italian High School!!!
The Sets:
The Roman Villa (their home)
I took a lot of photos of this lovely home - it was really a treat to stay here.
We were told stories of finding antiques buried on the family grounds. And, some have been displayed in thier home (and family homes) for years!
We had a lovely evening visiting with Federico Ciampella! He was our host in Trieste, many years back...
The Roman Ruins and Antiquities:
I would have to say my favorite was The Pantheon. Not really for the exterior - that is undergoing restoration (as are many buildings in Rome).
But for the interior, which dates to A.D. 120 - it was originally a temple to Roman gods, but, is well preserved because the church took possession and changed the use.
We sat in a cafe accross the street and took in the scene... while drinking coffee and ciocolatta (YUM)! And, listening to street musicians... and enjoying the fountain.
But, of course, we saw the Colloseum and most of the other ruins, and antiquities:
